The sun is finally making regular appearances in Sweden, so I've been pretty happy about that lately! I hope it's bright and sunny where you are! 🌞

In my recent emails, I've covered:

Today, I'm tackling another common question I get asked:

"My affiliate program isn't performing but I'm not sure where it went wrong. How do I know which parts of my affiliate program need improving?"

This is such an important question because affiliate programs can break down at different stages, and diagnosing the right problem is half the battle! 🩺

When I work with clients to revamp their affiliate programs, I look for these specific problems:

Problem 1: Affiliates aren't promoting at all​

This usually indicates one of three things:

  1. You don't have meaningful relationships with your affiliates (they might have forgotten they signed up!)
  2. Your promotional materials aren't clear or easy to use
  3. You simply have the wrong affiliates for your offer

Problem 2: Affiliates are promoting but not getting clicks​

This suggests a disconnect between the affiliate's audience and their promotional messaging. Either:

  1. Your swipe copy doesn't resonate with their specific audience
  2. The affiliate isn't positioning your offer in a way that appeals to their followers
  3. The affiliate's audience just isn't the right fit for your offer

Problem 3: Affiliates are getting clicks but you aren't getting conversions​
This points to a misalignment between the promotional messaging and what readers are seeing on your sales & landing pages:

  1. Your sale & landing pages don't match the message the affiliate is sharing
  2. The transition from the affiliate's platform to yours feels jarring
  3. Your offer could need improving altogether (pricing, features, etc)

The key is to track where the breakdown is happening in your funnel. Are you getting affiliate sign-ups but no promotions? Promotions but no clicks? Clicks but no sales?

Once you identify that specific breakdown point, you can focus your energy on fixing the right problem instead of randomly changing things that might be working perfectly fine!
